Ann Marie Doran (second from the right), the Student Director of Orientation and Knight L.I.F.E., took a minute to answer our questions
about Knight L.I.F.E. and Orientation.
Bellarmine Parent Programs (BPP): In your own words, what is Knight L.I.F.E. and Orientation?
Ann Marie (AM) : Knight L.I.F.E. and Orientation is an opportunity for new students to meet other new students before their first class. It helps students get ahead of the game by experiencing what resources Bellarmine has to make students’ college careers the most they can be. Each part is jam packed with crucial information about Bellarmine’s resources and opportunities for students to meet new classmates, and of course, have fun!
BPP: Tell us about your own Knight L.I.F.E. experience.
AM: My Knight L.I.F.E experience was terrifying at first. When my dad first dropped me off, that was the first time I had even stepped foot on Bellarmine’s campus. I was approached by several upperclassmen who simply wanted to know my name and make me feel welcome, and by the time my experience was over, I had the time of my life. I had made many friends, one of whom is still by best friend today. Without that experience, I would not be where I am today.
BPP: What is the one memory from your orientation that stands out for you?
AM: What stands out most to me is the memory I have of meeting so many different people. I was exposed to so many different lifestyles that it was really an eye opener for me. I also remembered that I didn’t have to be the most outgoing person in order to meet people. After several fun activities, I had already learned many peoples’ names, and the hard part was already over: breaking the ice. This led to me making the most out of my experience, which then turned into the best start to my college career.
BPP: Is Knight L.I.F.E. mandatory?
AM: Knight L.I.F.E is not only mandatory but is also essential for a smooth transition into Bellarmine’s community. Not going to Knight L.I.F.E. is like not getting a syllabus for class. It is not impossible to pass the class without the syllabus, but it is very difficult. You don’t ever want to be a step behind, so that is why we have organized this program to set students up for success.
BPP: Why should students attend?
AM: Students can make their experience what they want it to be at Bellarmine. Whatever experience they choose, networking will always help them get to where they need to be. Every resource your student needs will be welcoming them on these first days. We will answer any and all questions that your student has, maybe even those questions that he or she doesn’t even know yet. Most importantly, it is a tradition that kicks off every student's college experience with loads of fun!
