The Career Center is here to help you every step of the way – learning about career options, finding internships, and gaining experience and skills through campus activities and leadership roles. Career Counseling
- Appointments – The Career Center staff is available for appointments to discuss any aspect of your career planning. Contact us for information and assistance, or to schedule an appointment.
Exploring Majors and Careers
- Planning Your Future – Career assessment is one way of beginning to identify and clarify your interests, values, and personality. Information gathered from assessments can be used to begin exploring academic majors and career options. To take the Strong Interest Inventory or the Myers Briggs Type Indicator you must first meet with a counselor. SIGI3 is a web-based computer assisted career guidance program available on our web site. Students can evaluate their values, interests, and activities and investigate occupations. SIGI3 provides current, in-depth information on hundreds of occupations.
- Career Research – Take advantage of multiple resources on the Career Center web site to explore career options and get advice from professionals in the field by participating in Information Interviews through our Alumni Career Consultant Program.
- Career Workshops – Attend topical workshops on selecting a major, career fields, career related skill development and more.
Developing Career Related Skills
- Begin to develop your resume – Utilize our on-line resources to create a resume. Make an appointment with a counselor for a resume edit. Participate in our monthly resume review program with a local HR representative.
- Develop strong interviewing skills – Participate in an information interview with a professional active in the field to explore information about a specific career field. Participate in the bi-annual Mock Interview program to gain experience in interviewing.
- Develop leadership skills – Participate in co-curricular activities and volunteer experiences. Talk with the Director of Student Engagement about how to apply this participation to your EDGE transcript.
- Expand your world view – Participate in the Study Abroad program and campus programming related to internationalism.
- Investigate internship opportunities – Meet with a Career Center staff member to discuss possible experiential learning opportunities in your field.
