The guest room reflects the grand
scale of the architecture seen throughout this gracious home.
Large intricate moldings, l0’ high ceilings, and windows that
beckon the guests to “drink their tea” on the private terrace all
add up to the elegant style of this bedroom retreat.
In keeping with these generous
proportions, the designers chose a bed that commands attention.
Large in scale but delicate in design, the Chinese Chippendale
canopied bed gracefully creates a focal point in a room where
comfort is the ultimate goal. Everything else in this small space
is intended to complement the bed, not compete with it.
The white bed is dressed with
coordinating fabrics that hint at the exotic Indienne prints from
the West Indies, keeping it fresh and traditional at the same
time. As a way to further accentuate the bed, the designers pulled
the electric blue accent color from the fabrics to apply on the
walls, thus creating a vivid contrast to the white painted finish.
Although the
room is traditional in character, some accent pieces were chosen
with an eye toward the contemporary. Notice the dresser, bedside
tables and the lamps in the room. They are all contemporary
pieces that provide an unexpected touch while blending easily with
the rest of the décor. The total effect is both traditionally
familiar yet refreshingly alive with attitude!
