President McGowan has appointed a committee to monitor the H1N1 flu and to advise the University on what information would be most useful to share with the community.
Because the virus is transmitted person-to-person, community members should observe the following common-sense recommendations of the National Centers for Disease Control:
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands. If a tissue is not available, cough into your elbow or sleeve and wash your hands as soon as possible.
Wash your hands with soap and water often. Carry an alcohol-based hand sanitizer gel for use when soap and water are not available.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
Avoid close contact with sick people. Flu is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing by infected people.
If you get sick, stay home from work and do not go to class. Limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
Students should contact Bellarmine University’s Health Services (502.452.8493), their health care provider or an Immediate Care Center if they feel ill with a fever or flu symptoms.
In the coming months, Bellarmine University will update this page and may communicate in other ways if there is important new information.
In the meantime, you can always find more and current information about the flu from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by clicking here.
