Lacrosse Routs RMU, Gardner Sets Scoring Mark March 1, 2008, LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Bellarmine lacrosse team scored the most goals against a Division I opponent in school history today as they trounced visiting Robert Morris, 20-9. Not since a 22-goal effort against Division II Wheeling Jesuit back in the Knights' inaugural season of 2005 has Bellarmine put up 20 points on the scoreboard.

Today, the Knights (2-1) had 11 players register a goal, including four by senior attack Adam Gardner (Toronto, Ontario). Those four goals gave Gardner the program record for career scores at Bellarmine. He now has 87 goals in a Bellarmine uniform, surpassing Garrett Kikot (85) on the all-time list.

The Knights jumped out to a quick lead today, scoring five straight goals to open up the first period. Sophomore Shane Andersen (Denver, Colo.) scored the first goal fewer than four minutes into the contest then assisted on two other early Bellarmine scores.

Robert Morris (2-3) finally got on the board at the end of the period on a Michael Fleming score. The Colonials leading scorer, Andrew Watt, added another goal a few minutes into the second period to cut the lead to 5-2, but costly penalties on Chris Walsh and Watt, allowed Bellarmine to go back up by five as Jamie Floris (Niagara on the Lake, Ontario) and Matt Holland (Victoria, British Columbia) each deposited a man-up goal midway through the second period.

Midway through the third stanza, the Colonials were still within striking distance at 10-5, when penalties again cost them. Andersen drilled back-to-back man-up goals with just over six minutes left in the third, sparking a 7-1 Bellarmine run which effectively shut the door on the visitors.

Andersen finished with a career-high six points on four goals and two assists. Holland and senior John Kirk (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) both added two goals and two assists. Freshman Teddy Avendt (Brighton, Mich.) also got into the action with three points as he registered his first collegiate goals.

Defender Geoff Griffiths (Markham, Ontario) added just his second goal of his collegiate career in the game's closing seconds while leading the Knights with four groundballs.

David Haas (Novi, Mich.) picked up the win in goal for the Knights, stopping three shots and allowing three goals while spending the entire first half between the pipes.

Bellarmine won 19 of 31 faceoffs and out-shot the Colonials 50-28.

Pat Smith tallied three goals and Watt added a goal and four assists to pace Robert Morris.

Bellarmine is in action again on Tuesday when they host Saint Joseph's at home.
