Women's Tennis Drops Two Over Weekend March 22, 2008, INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Bellarmine women's tennis team (2-7, 0-2) opened conference play this weekend with losses at Northern Kentucky (5-1, 1-0) and Indianapolis (5-5, 1-1). The Norse defeated the Knights 9-0 on Friday, while UIndy prevailed 8-1 on Saturday.

Bellarmine's best opportunity to pick up a point on Friday came at the No. 1 singles spot. Sophomore Sarah Roebker (Fort Mitchell, Ky.) won the first set, 6-4, over Norse freshman Patricia Brinck. Roebker went on to lose the second set, 6-1, before ultimately falling, 10-5, in the third set tiebreaker.

Roebker and Maria Hornung (New Albany, Ind.) nearly pulled out a win in the No. 1 doubles match, but Northern's tandem of Stephanie Isaacs and Kristen Sunday squeaked by, 9-8. At the No. 3 doubles pairing, Bellarmine's Elizabeth Bohnert (Louisville/Sacred Heart) and Lauren Cotton (Louisville/Eastern) dropped a competitive 8-5 decision to the Norse duo of Brinck and Maggie Koetter.

On Saturday, the Knights pushed several matches right to the end at UIndy, but couldn't close the deal. Hornung accounted for Bellarmine's lone win of the weekend. The senior had a straight set, 7-6, 7-6, win over Melanie Sullivan at the No. 3 singles spot. Roebker once again pushed her opponent to a third set tiebreaker at the No. 1 position, but lost a heartbreaker to Greyhound No. 1 Lindsey Fischer, 6-4, 6-7, 7-5.

The Knights will welcome the Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis to the SuRF Center on Friday, March 28. Match time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
