Knights lose match with Norse in GLVC Tourney KANSAS CITY, Mo (November 7, 2008) -- The Bellarmine Knights lost their match against the Northern Kentucky Norse in the semi-final round of the GLVC Tourney on Friday night.

The Knights fought valiantly against the #3 seeded Norse but an own goal at the 38:01 mark proved to be the difference in the tightly contested match.

NKU's Steven Beattie, the GLVC Offensive Player of the Year, opened the scoring with his 19th goal of the year in the 25th minute of the contest. Assisting on the goal was Northern Kentucky's Seth Eckerlin. This goal was followed a few minutes later by the fateful own goal propelling the Norse to a 2-0 lead.

Responding to the challenge, the Knights tightened up the score at 2-1 in the waning minutes of the first half when Grant Wheeler found the back of the net off of a pass from Kieran Potterton. Bellarmine had one last chance before the midway mark, but a shot by Ross Hopkins was wide right.

The Norse pushed their lead back to a two goal margin when Beattie netted his 20th goal of the season in the 56th minute.

Trading shots with Northern Kentucky for the rest of the second half, Bellarmine again cut the lead to one in the 83rd minute on Brad Barraclough's 18th goal of the season. Assisting on the strike was BU's Hopkins.

Failing to find the equalizer in the final 7 minutes of the game, the Knights saw the game come to a close with the Norse on top 3-2.

Bellarmine closes out their 2008 campaign with a 9-7-4 record (5-5-2) and promise for the coming season as scoring leader Barraclough and assists leader Hopkins return for their junior seasons. Both players were All-Conference honorees during the '08 season.
