Tritons knock Bellarmine out of GLVC Tourney
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (Nov. 14, 2008)--The #1-seeded Tritons of Missouri-St. Louis defeated Bellarmine, the #4 seed, 25-15, 25-15, 25-23 in the opening round of the eight-team Great Lakes Valley Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament today in Romeoville, Ill., on the campus of Lewis University.
The loss ends Bellarmine's season with a record of 8-18, which reflects their tough schedule. Eight of their losses came to teams ranked in the nation's top 25.
In today's match, the Knights attack was led by first team All-GLVC performer Emily Beckman, who had 11 kills. Junior captain Caryn Schoeff, who was named to the All-GLVC third team, recorded 21 assists for the Knights.
Defensively, freshman libero Austin Ziegler had 12 digs and sophomore Kaitlan Harris had nine.
Seniors Katie Wetterer and Katie Willinger played in their last match for the Knights, recording six and three kills respectively. Wetterer ends her career among Bellarmine's top 10 in kills, hitting percentage, solo blocks, and assisted blocks. Willinger finishes second on Bellarmine's list for most assisted blocks in a career and sixth for most solo blocks.
