Bellarmine to celebrate Sweet 16 basketball team
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (April 2, 2009)--Bellarmine University will celebrate the success of the 2008-09 men's basketball team with a picnic on Tuesday, April 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Knights Hall. (Moved indoors due to weather.)
Knights Nation (Bellarmine's Pep Club) President Mike Scott will emcee the event, which will include remarks from Bellarmine President Joseph J. McGowan and from Coach Scott Davenport, who also will introduce the team.
The Knights finished the season with the most victories in school history (26) and made their first appearance in the NCAA Division II's "Sweet 16" since 1989 and first time since the tournament moved to a 64-team format.
Bellarmine ended its season with a heartbreaking overtime loss in the Midwest Regional Final to the eventual national champion, University of Findlay. That game was played on Findlay's home floor, where the Oilers have only lost twice in the past five years.
The event is free and open to the public.
