Bellarmine loses to Southern Indiana 11-8
EVANSVILLE,Ind. (Apr. 8, 2009) -- The Bellarmine baseball team lost to 22nd ranked Southern Indiana by a score of 11-8 in Evansville, Ind. on Wednesday afternoon.

In a game that saw the two teams combine for 22 hits and 19 runs, and the lead change hands several times, the Knights were unable to outscore their GLVC hosts.

Both starters lasted only 2.2 innings apiece as the Knights sent five pitchers to the mound, and the Eagles four, over the course of the nine inning game.

The Screaming Eagles delivered the fatal blow in the bottom of the sixth as they got to BU reliever Taylor Scarlett for four runs on four hits and a walk. The four spot gave USI the 11-8 lead that they held for the final three innings of the game.

USI reliever Cody Brandenstein was awarded the win while Scarlett came home with the loss.

Offensively, the Knights were led by Adam Chester (2-4, R, 3 RBI, HR), Chris Wiedmar (1-4, R, 2 RBI, HR), and Nick Riganti (1-3, R, 2 RBI, SB) who combined to drive in seven of Bellarmine's eight runs. Chester's homerun was his sixth of the season while Wiedmar notched his second.

Bellarmine's record slipped to 21-14 (10-6 GLVC) while Southern Indiana improved to 26-8 (13-2 GLVC).

The Knights welcome St. Joseph's College to Knights Field this coming weekend for a pair of doubleheaders on Friday, Apr. 10, and Saturday, Apr. 11.
