Knights split pair with Lewis
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (April 17, 2009)--Bellarmine University got two runs in the bottom of the sixth to thwart a Lewis comeback and earn a split with the Flyers this afternoon at Knights Field in a Great Lakes Valley Conference softball doubleheader.

Bellarmine (18-28, 8-12 GLVC) dropped the opener 2-0, but came back to earn a 6-4 victory in game two.

The first game was a pitcher's duel that saw the game enter the last inning tied 0-0. However, Lewis' Kelly Dinais connected for a homer to centerfield on an 0-2 pitch to open the seventh inning. The Flyers (29-14, 11-7 GLVC) tacked on one more to make the final score 2-0 as Courtney Lyons recorded a 4-hit, complete game shutout for Lewis.

In game two, the Knights' offense came alive as Caroline McCauley doubled home two runs in the opening inning. The Knights would go on the build a 4-0 lead, but the Flyers tied it with four runs in the top of the sixth.

Bellarmine answered the challenge by scoring two in the bottom half to secure the 6-4 victory.

Bellarmine freshman catcher Jordan Basham provided much of the offense for the Knights, belting a two-run homer in the fourth innning and driving in the winning run with a single in the bottom of the sixth.

The Knights will play a doubleheader against Wisconsin-Parkside tomorrow beginning at noon. The day will be senior day, as Bellarmine honors their seniors, Kim Locke and Katie Wolsiefer.
