Knights close regular season with victory
LOUISVILLE, Ky., (Apr.19, 2009) -- Bellarmine University's women's tennis team closed out their regular season with a 5-2 victory over the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds on Sunday afternoon.

The Knights grabbed a 2-1 advantage in doubles as Rebecca Porter and Emily Roebker downed Alena Perez-Matul and Aly Neidlinger by a score of 8-5 while Sarah Roebker teamed with Elizabeth Bohnert to topple Lee Matthews and Meghan Teunis 8-2.

Bellarmine continued their strong play when the competition turned to singles. Porter defeated Megan Farley 6-0, 6-4. Sarah Roebker knocked off Matthews 6-1, 6-4. And Bohnert beat Perez-Matul 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

The matches were stopped when Bohnert vanquished her opponent giving the Knights the 5-2 victory. Emily Roebker was leading 7-5, 2-2 in her match when things were brought to a halt.

With the win, Bellarmine finishes their regular season at 13-6 (8-3, GLVC), placing them fourth in the conference. The Knights will also be seeded fourth in the GLVC Tennis Championships to be held Apr. 24-25 in St. Louis, Mo. at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center on the campus of Washington (Mo.) University.

Bellarmine will see the Greyhounds again as Indianapolis is seeded fifth in the tourney. The two teams will square off for their second match in six days when they face each other at 11:00 a.m. on Fri., April 24.
