Knights fall 5-0 to Northwood in NCAA tourney
MIDLAND, Mich. (May 7, 2009) -- The Bellarmine Knights fell 5-0 to Northwood University in the opening round of the NCAA women's tennis tournament at the Midland Community Tennis Center.
Playing in the Midwest Region #1, the Knights, ranked #8 regionally, found the Timberwolves, ranked #1 regionally and #17 nationally, to be more than they could handle.
The Wolves exerted their strength early as they captured all three of the doubles matches, taking a 3-0 lead.
When Northwood won at the number one and four singles, the remaining matches were halted and NU moved on with a 5-0 victory.
Despite the early departure from the tourney, the Knights had a great season with 14 wins, tying them for the most team wins in a season. With five of their top six players returning next year, Bellarmine has much to look forward to next year.
