Hickey to represent Bellarmine at national finals
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 16, 2009)--Senior Katie Hickey will represent Bellarmine University at the 2009 NCAA Div. II Outdoor Track and Field National Championships to be held May 21-23 at the LeGrand Sports Complex in San Angelo, Texas. She will compete in the 1,500 meters.
Hickey, a senior doctor of physical therapy major from Cincinnati, will be making her third trip to the national finals. Last year, she earned All-America status by finishing fourth in the 3,000 meters.
This year, however, the NCAA eliminated that event so Hickey had to concentrate her efforts on the 1,500—an event in which she narrowly missed earning All-America honors in 2006.
Hickey qualified for nationals by running a (Bellarmine record) 4:31.88 in the 1,500 meters at the Stan Lyons Invitational hosted by Butler University. That time ranks her 11th among the 17 women competing in the 1,500 at the national finals.
