Portfolio Guidelines

All history majors must submit a portfolio before graduation. The purpose of the portfolio is to assess our program and the extent to which we are accomplishing the objectives of the major.

Each portfolio should include:

  1. Résumé.
  2. Copies of major term papers from upper-division history courses taken by the student. By the time of graduation, there should be at least five (5) papers in the portfolio, including your Historical Research paper.
  3. Examinations taken in upper-division history or political science courses.
  4. A 2-3 page essay reviewing the student's progress and achievements, the strengths and weaknesses of the department and major, and the student’s immediate plans and career goals.

The documents in the portfolios will be kept confidential and will be made available only to faculty, staff or accreditation officials. They will be returned to the student as soon as possible after the end of the semester, although some will be scanned and retained for accreditation purposes.

More detailed instructions and deadlines will be communicated to graduating seniors.
