  program information

Bellarmine University and the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary (LPTS) offer a unique Master of Arts in Spirituality degree. The program features ecumenical collaboration, an international study component, and integrated seminars. It is designed to be attractive to students of all Christian faiths who hunger for a deeper sense of spirituality as well as to serve the needs of students seeking professional development.

Many of our students are also planning careers as spiritual directors, social workers or clinical pastoral educators. Some have served in the legal profession or volunteer their time to do social justice work. Some LPTS Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Family Therapy students choose to participate in the Master of Arts in Spirituality to earn a dual degree.

And some have discovered a call to ministry.

The Master of Arts in Spirituality benefits all of these and more.

Sara Miles at St Matthew's Episcopal Church

Sara Miles, author of Take this Bread (Ballantine Books, 2008), will discuss her book and the experiences that provoked its writing on November 15 at 7:00 p.m. at St Matthew's Episcopal Church in Louisville (330 North Hubbards Lane). The event is free and open to the public.

The story of an unexpected and terribly inconvenient Christian conversion, told by a very unlikely convert, Take this Bread is not only a spiritual memoir but a call to action.

Raised as an atheist, Sara Miles lived an enthusiastically secular life as a restaurant cook and writer. Then early one morning, for no earthly reason, she wandered into a church. "I was certainly not interested in becoming a Christian," she writes. "Or, as I thought of it rather less politely, a religious nut."

But she ate a piece of bread, took a sip of wine, and found herself radically transformed....
