  applied information technology
IT is a rather new field that is growing very rapidly. Businesses have found that they need IT to compete and survive in today's world. Extensive research with organizational leaders has shown that the needs of most organizations go far beyond the mastery of technical skills. In our BS AIT program, students not only learn the technical skills, but also how to apply those skills to real-world problems and how these skills form the foundation for creativity and innovation.

Employers are looking for individuals who can research solutions to problems with little or no direction, who can work in teams even if they are half way across the world, and who can appreciate the contributions each function makes within an organization to advance the goals of the oprganization.

The heart of the program is eight studio courses which integrate topics across each semester and provide continuity as the student progresses through the program. These studios immerse the students in real world challenges as they strive to accomplish program goals.

Entrepreneurship is a significant element of the program. Students create a plan for developing a commercial product and then follow the plan to take the product to commercialization. Along the way, the students use an Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP) developed by SAP AG to establish and control their business and its processes. The students build, maintain, and control the infrastructure of their organization with SAP.

To be prepared for IT careers in the 21st century requires a mindsdet of innovation and life-long learning. To succeed in the program students need to be innovative, persistent, supportive, demanding, and understanding. Consistent with the mission of the University, this program will "develop the intellectual, moral, ethical, and professional competencies for successful living, work, leadership, and service to others."

  applied information technology minor

The minor would be of most benefit to students majoring in an area of business but the minor would be available and beneficial to all majors. Students see the need to be qualified in more than just Microsoft Office products to compete successfully in their career area. The minor addresses major areas of Information Technology (IT), providing a broad background in IT skills. Students will learn general computer terminology; basic hardware, software, and network concepts; object-oriented design practices and object-oriented computer programming; foundational database concepts; and an option of pursuing: hands-on experience with business processes on a state-of-the-art Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system provided by SAP, learning security and risk management skills, learning best practices in IT, or business computer networking.
