MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTION CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

According to the 2008-09 edition of the Occupational Outlook Handbook, employment of Medical Transcriptionists is projected to grow faster than the average for all occupations. Demand for MT services will be spurred by a growing and aging population and sustained by the growing need for electronic documentation that can be shared easily.

An MT transcribes recordings dictated by physicians and other healthcare professionals, creating medical reports that become part of patients' permanent files.  Transcriptionists work for hospitals, outpatient clinics, physician offices, national transcription services, or other medical offices. Many hospitals and clinics are now out-sourcing their dictation, creating an attractive opportunity for transcriptionists to work from home, an employment opportunity that will be explored this program.

Bellarmine’s 18-week Medical Transcription Certificate Program consists of

  • A six-week ONLINE Medical Terminology course. You’ll explore root terms associated with the various body systems, prefixes and suffixes and medical abbreviations.
  • Instruction in basic human anatomy
  • Hands-on training. You’ll complete a variety of transcription exercises in a computer lab.

Upon successful completion of the program, you’ll receive a certificate from Bellarmine University.
