Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL)
Via Lingua International is an institutional member of the International Association of Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Bellarmine University has partnered with Via Lingua to offer a non-credit Certificate Program that equips students with the basic skills and knowledge needed to take a position anywhere in the world as an EFL teacher. The program comprises five components: TEFL pedagogy theory, language awareness, teaching skills, life skills and cultural awareness. Via Lingua CTEFL courses are both moderated and accredited and exceed the international standards that are laid down for the regulation of the industry.
Via Lingua study programs are offered in 15 exciting locations around the world, including centers in Europe, Asia, South and Central America, North America and Africa. As a Via Lingua graduate, you will be able to take full advantage of the extensive network of world-wide centers. Via Lingua offers Bellarmine students the opportunity to continue their studies in one or more of the their study centers, engage in practicum opportunities, take part in additional short-term study programs, stay with local families and be immersed in local culture, develop their foreign language skills, take part in cultural exchange programs and internships and participate in research projects.
To earn the TEFL certificate, a student must attend the full program – 130 hours, which includes 10 hours of assessed teaching practice - and complete all assignments to the required standard. The Via Lingua job guidance program assists all successful graduates of the TEFL course in finding a suitable TEFL teaching position. Classes are held at Bellarmine University. Supervised teaching practice will be held in the Louisville community.
- Instructor: Elizabeth Fitzgerald, PhD., is a certified teacher of English as a Foreign Language (CTEFL) and a certified TEFL trainer. Elizabeth earned her certifications from Via Lingua International.
