  Finals Week Chefcklist

“Do or do not, there is no try.” –Yoda, Jedi Knight Master

As students move toward final exams, we ask that they bear in mind their duty and responsibility to do the university proud as BU Knights, but we also ask that they bear in mind another legacy of Knight excellence: that of the Jedi Knight. In the spirit of the Force, we impart to students the very best method of preparing for final exams, the method of the Jedi. Below are a few words from Yoda, Jedi Knight Master, as well as a helpful checklist, to help students navigate exam preparation and exam week.

-Good luck, young Padawan, may The Force be with you.

“Ready are you? What know you of ready?”

_Notified my job/internship/workstudy employer/athletic team/other of my altered schedule during exam week

“Named must your fear be before banish it you can.”

_Double-checked all my listed final exam time and locations (BEWARE: final exams are not always in your regular classroom) and put all this info in my planner (Blackberry, iPhone, etc.).

_Double-checked all my syllabi for information about the exam (i.e. percentage of grade, cumulative, types of material/questions covered).

_Checked ARC website for dates and times of study sessions I am interested in attending and marked those details in my student planner or other device.

“A Jedi must have the deepest commitment, the most serious mind.”

_Established a framework for how much time I will need to prepare/study for each exam, and marked that time out in my planner (including time I will need between exams to relax, and then resume studying).

"Early must I rise. Leave now you must…Adventure. Heh. Excitement. Heh. A Jedi craves not these things.”

  • Save the social networking. Facebook will still be there after exams are over, and your cell phone will not explode if you don’t text.
  • Use the study day! The university did not institute this custom so you could sleep late and do laundry. Use this time to get prepped (make study guides, notecards, etc.) so all you have to do is review the material before the test.
  • Give yourself incentives (small ones that don’t detract from your focus). Nothing feels better than ace-ing a tough exam. Go buy yourself a smoothie. NOTE: Now is not the time to reward yourself with an all-nighter of DDR. Save the big incentive until you’re all done.
  • Stick to your schedule. BEWARE: Some of your friends will finish exams long before you do. They will try to tempt you into 1am Taco Bell runs and late night movie fests in your room. Resist the temptation.
