Clinical Microbiology

Medical Microbiology is a branch of Microbiology that specifically concentrates on the pathogenesis of infectious organisms. This course was chosen as part of the nursing curriculum because as nurses, it is essential that you be familiar with the process of infectious disease and the causative agents. This course will be limited to the study of human pathogens and it will not cover the more environmentally-oriented areas of Microbiology. In addition, the interactive CD-ROM text Microbes in Motion III will be used as a supplement to the text book, Foundations in Microbiology (6th edition) by Talaro. The CD-ROM disc can be purchased along with the text at a reduced rate. There are CD-ROM computers available in the Library, Miles and Pasteur computer labs. Quiz questions from the CD text will be a portion of each laboratory session. Lectures will be held in Pasteur 274. The laboratory will meet in room NHSC 108 of the Norton Health Science Center. Attendance is expected at all lectures and labs. It is the student's responsibility to remain current with all lectures and laboratory information.
