MATH 120: Advice from previous students
- "Keep up with the material because it compounds on itself and you do not want to get behind. Stay on task in your group, work together through each problem and the course will run smoothly!"
- "Get familar with the [Maple] software."
- "Make sure your group has plenty of times when EVERYONE can meet and make sure you find people you know you can work well with. Find people you know will work so that some people don't get stuck doing everything. I also think it is important to ask questions when you are lost and help each other out so that everyone understands. Finally, don't freak out after the first class. I know it is overwhelming but it isn't as hard as it first seems."
- "Pick a group you can work with, not just a group of friends because sometimes your friends are not the people you would choose to help you or to keep your concentration."
- "I would tell them to not get frustrated in the beginning...when you get used to the way the class is taught and got used to the work, it was really easy. It's easy to get frustrated with something new and I would let them know that it is not as bad as it seems."
- "Keep up with the readings, take good notes, and learn [Maple] as soon as possible."
- " Read the chapter before the lab day."
- "Take as much notes as possible. Everything he writes on the board is most definitely important."
- "Study the past exams. More than likely, questions like those will be on the exam you are studying for."
- "Make sure that you pick group members that you can work well with and do not have one person do all the work because then you do not understand. Also, if you don't understand, don't be afraid to ask Fenton, he will always help you."
