GUIDELINES FOR SECOND PAPER

MATH 450

DUE Thursday February 9 in class.

In this paper, you are to reflect on your mathematical experiences at Bellarmine. Discuss the five goals of the Mathematics Department (listed below and on page 234 of the University Catalog) and whether you feel these goals have been achieved for you. Be specific; talk about your courses and how they addressed these goals. Which topics helped? Which assignments? What extracurricular activities contributed to these goals? What courses would you recommend to future students and why? What could have improved your progress toward these goals?

GOAL 1:         Students should develop skills in problem solving.

GOAL 2:         Students should develop their ability to communicate mathematical ideas.

GOAL 3:         Students should attain a reasonable proficiency at understanding and creating mathematical proofs.

GOAL 4:        Students should be aware of a broad variety of applications of mathematics, both in and out of mathematics.

GOAL 5:      Students should appreciate the breadth of mathematics and experience the intellectual rigor of depth in an advanced subject area.
