Summer and Winter Break Study Abroad Options for Economics Majors
Short term study abroad options in economics vary from year to year.
The Cooperative Center for Study Abroad (CCSA)www.ccsa.cc This consortium offers several economics classes, in addition to other disciplines, every summer and winter break. Their programs are located in the following locations: England, Ireland, Belize, Canada, Ghana, Jamaica, Scotland, Australia, Singapore and South Africa.
The Kentucky Institute for International Studies (KIIS)www.kiis.org This consortium offers summer programs around the globe. The courses offered are typically in the liberal arts subjects but there are often course options in areas such as economics, geo-tourism, and the environment.
The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) http://www.ciee.org/
This is a consortium of 170 colleges and universities including Bellarmine providing summer study, internships, field projects, intensive language study, and a variety of courses in the liberal arts, business and economic development, as well as social and natural sciences at its international study centers, as well as over 600 volunteer opportunities for Service Learning around the globe. Summer study is available in Brazil, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, France, Spain, Thailand, and Tunesia and in academic areas not served by KIIS or CCSA.
Academic Programs International (API)www.academicintl.com This organization has a comprehensive list of courses that are offered during their summer sessions around the globe in places such as Italy, Spain, Ireland, and Poland. They also have intensive language programs. Their programs have an extensive list of business and international business classes as well as a variety of other disciplines.
The American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS)www.aifsabroad.com These programs are typically one month long. There is the option of a multi-country experience with this organization. They have a variety of business, international business and economics options in China, South Africa and other countries. In addition, they offer an International Marketing and Finance Program that takes place in several countries of the European Union.
The Institute for International Education (IES) www.iesabroad.com IES has over 25 program sites around the world in Europe, South America, New Zealand, Australia and Asia. They offer a variety of academic programs including language study, literature and history.
Academic Year and Semester Study Abroad Options for Economics Majors
The following sites are excellent options for long term study abroad in economics. If you have many electives or general education requirements and do not need specific economics classes during your time overseas, then you may have a larger selection of sites to choose from.
These universities are partners of Bellarmine University and students participate in exchanges. As a result, Bellarmine students are able to study in another country for basically the same cost as a semester or academic year on the Bellarmine campus. Several new bilateral partnerships are being negotiated. Please contact the International Programs Office for more up to date information on these institutions.
United Kingdom
New Zealand and the United Kingdom are on a 3 year cycle. Students enter at a more advanced level; there is usually not a core curriculum. Students only assist in classes in their major. 1st year classes are equivalent to our 100/200 level classes, 2nd year is equivalent to our 200/300 level classes 3rd year classes are equivalent to our 400 level classes.
