Global Quiz Competition Scholarship

Answer 20 questions and earn a chance to win $500 towards the cost of a summer abroad program with BU Faculty!
The quiz competitions will be announced in the BU Daily night and will be available on the dates listed. Students will have one week to complete the quiz and submit it to the IPO at internationalstudies@bellarmine.edu or in hard copy to Miles 149.

Study Abroad Travel Stipends Sponsored by the SGA
In support of Bellarmine’s Quality Enhancement Plan, “Liberal Education in an International Context: Preparing Students for a Globally Competitive World,” SGA is supporting Bellarmine students studying abroad by funding three travel stipends each year until 2013.

Bellarmine Global Knight Scholarship for Foreign Language Students
This scholarship is open to students of French, Italian, Spanish or German. The award may be applied to summer or academic term study abroad. Awards of up to $4000 are available. (Priority scholarship deadline March 15. Scholarship applications submitted after this deadline must be received at least 6 weeks prior to departure and will be considered based on the availability of funds.)

The David Hershberg Scholarship
Eligibility for this grant is limited to students currently enrolled in a degree program at any accredited Metro Louisville area institution of higher learning. The award can be applied to international summer study (21 day minimum). Awards of up to $1,500 are available. (Application deadline is February 20)

The CCSA Scholarship
These scholarships are available to students participating in CCSA summer or winter short-term programs. Awards range from $250-$500. (Deadline for Summer programs is March 15; Deadline for Winter programs is October 1)

KIIS Dr. Kenneth E. Harrell Scholarship

These awards are available to students participating in summer or semester KIIS programs. They are need-based. Awards are given in the amount of $500 for summer study and $750 for semester study. (Application deadline is March 1st)

The Council on International Student Exchange (CIEE) Scholarships
Several scholarships are available to students who participate in CIEE’s summer, semester or academic year programs. Awards and application deadlines vary.

The Ferguson Fund for Study Abroad
This scholarship is for the student who enjoys independent work. The student must propose a project and have two faculty members recommend the student’s work. The student will present his/her work to the scholarship committee upon return from the study abroad experience. Awards of up to $1000 are given for long or short term study abroad. Zvinakis Southeast Asian Studies Scholarship
This scholarship is for students who are interested in studying abroad in destinations in Southeast Asia. Award is up to $2,500. Please contact the IPO for more details.

Vuturo Study Abroad Scholarship
This scholarship is for students with financial need who are studying abroad through a Bellarmine approved summer, semester, or academic year program. Awards are from $500 - $1000. Please contact the IPO for more details.

Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships
Several types of scholarships are available for undergraduate and graduate students. Applicants must apply through their local Rotary club.
The award covers the majority of costs for participation in a study or research program abroad.

The Darcy Blair Memorial Educational Fund
This award provides assistance to young women for career-related learning experiences outside normal academic pursuits. The award can be applied to long or short term study abroad. Awards vary. (Application deadline is March 1st)

NSEP David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarships
NSEP scholarships are intended to provide support to U.S. undergraduates who will pursue the study of languages and cultures currently underrepresented in study abroad and critical to U.S. national security. Study of a foreign language appropriate to the identified country must be part of each proposal. Awards can be applied to summer, (6 weeks minimum) semester or academic year programs. Preference is given to students studying for a full academic year. Awards of up to $20,000 are available.

ISEP Scholarships
Scholarships are available for students who participate in the ISEP semester or academic year exchange program. There are scholarship opportunities available in many countries. Awards vary.

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program
This scholarship provides awards for US undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a 2-year or 4-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide. Students must be participating in a semester or academic year program. This is a competitive scholarship. Awards of up to $5,000 are available.

Fund for International Service Learning Scholarship
In August of 2004, five individuals founded the Fund for International Service Learning (FISL) as a nonprofit organization dedicated to distributing scholarships to those planning to participate in international service-learning programs. IPSL and FISL believe in the positive influence
international study has on students and the reciprocal benefits of service to others. FISL is
dedicated to financially assisting those who wish to broaden their minds while studying and serving others abroad. Application deadline is April 15.

Critical LanguageScholarships for Intensive Summer Institutes
The United States Department of State and the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC) are pleased to announce the availability of scholarships for intensive overseas summer study in critical-need languages such as Arabic, Bangla, Hindi, Punjabi, Turkish and Urdu. As part of the National Security Language Initiative (NSLI), a U.S. government interagency effort to expand dramatically the number of Americans studying and mastering critical need foreign languages, the Department of State Critical Language Scholarships will provide funding for U.S. citizen undergraduate, master’s and Ph.D. students to participate in beginning, intermediate and advanced level summer language programs at American Overseas Research Centers. Recipients of these scholarships will be expected to continue their language study beyond the scholarship period and later apply their critical language skills in their professional careers. (Application deadline is April 24)

German Chancellor Fellowship
The German Chancellor Fellowship provides for a stay of one year in Germany for professional development, study, or research. Applicants design individual projects and decide at which institutions or organizations to pursue them. Prior knowledge of German is not required. Applicants must have received their Bachelor's Degree. Monthly stipends range from 2,000 to 3,000 EUR, and allowances are available for accompanying family members, travel expenses, and introductory German language instruction in the United States.
The application deadline for 2011-2012 awards is October 15, 2010.

DAAD Scholarship Programs for Study and Research in Germany
Fellowships are offered for study programs in Germany. These range from a three-week summer course to the entire year after graduation. Prior German language study is not a requirement. Awards vary.

Congress- Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals
This scholarship program consists of two months of language school; four months of classes in your career field at a technical or professional school or university; and a five month internship in your career field. It is primarily designed for business, technical, vocational, and agricultural fields. German language proficiency is not required but strongly recommended. Awards include airfare, accommodations and a paid internship as part of the year program.

Bridging Scholarships for Study in Japan
Undergraduate students majoring in any field of study are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Japanese language study is not a prerequisite. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and be enrolled in a college or university in the United States. Bridging Scholarship recipients receive a stipend of up to $4,000.

KIIS Ecuador Program - Kentucky Ecuador Partners Scholarship
Kentucky-Ecuador Partners offers one $500 scholarship for a participant in the Kentucky Institute for International Studies (KIIS) Ecuador program. The purpose of the scholarship is to support study abroad in Ecuador, and to increase awareness of the Kentucky-Ecuador Partners of the Americas program among a new generation of students. Deadline is March 1.
