Z. Kimura spoke of Careers in Physical Therapy and Ethical Practice in the Field:
- Z. went to St. Louis University
- He worked with kids every summer who were able-bodied making him realize he wanted to help the less fortunate kids.
- We all must think about why we want to do Physical Therapy (money, want to help people, interesting study, freedom, security)
- Ethics of PT is important must abide by rules (could lose license)
- Many ethical rules are broken unintentionally but you are still liable (not documenting correctly, treatment without approval, sexual harassment)
- Be aware of these “sharks” to keep your career
- Consult with mentors, parents for advice on ethics
- Z. has had a wide variety of job settings in PT because there are so many opportunities PT has to offer
- Advice: See a variety of PT settings, do not take shortcuts, be patient, find out what your passions are because it is likely you will not be happy if you do not
-His most enjoyable job settings: Private practice and Prison
