  • Homicide Trends in the United States 1980-2008 - This report contains a series of tables and figures that describe homicide patterns and trends in the United States from 1980 through 2008. It also includes overall homicide rates for 2009 and 2010 (for which detailed data are not yet available).
  • National Criminal Justice Reference Service - Homicide Data - NCJRS offers extensive reference and referral services to help you find answers to your questions about crime and justice-related research, policy, and practice.
  • Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics - Homicide - The Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics brings together data from more than 200 sources about many aspects of criminal justice in the United States. It has been compiled by the Utilization of Criminal Justice Statistics Project since 1973 and is funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Statistics.
  • Uniform Crime Reports-Homicide Data - The Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program of the FBI collects supplementary homicide data that provides information regarding the age, sex, and race of the murder victim and offender; the type of weapon used; the relationship of the victim to the offender; and the circumstance surrounding the incident.

  • The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention's Model Programs Guide (MPG) - OJJDP, a component of the Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice, accomplishes its mission by supporting states, local communities, and tribal jurisdictions in their efforts to develop and implement effective programs for juveniles. The Office strives to strengthen the juvenile justice system's efforts to protect public safety, hold offenders accountable, and provide services that address the needs of youth and their families.

Handgun and Firearms Information

  • State Firearm Laws - Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms - This publication is designed to help you comply with Federal and State firearms laws. Specifically, it will assist you in complying with the Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA). The GCA prohibits licensees from selling or delivering a firearm to a nonlicensee whose receipt or possession of the firearm would violate State or local laws applicable at the place of sale or delivery.
  • Handgun Laws in the United States - This site provides information on handgun laws on a state by state basis. Since this site is compiled by individuals with seemingly no credentials, you should check each state's laws to verify.
  • Handguns - Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics - Provides an array of statistics relating to handgun violence in the United States.
