  • American Community Survey (Annual Survey) - The 2005 data include estimates of demographic, social, and economic characteristics of people, households and housing units.
  • American Fact Finder– U.S. Census Bureau - This is a great source for population, housing, economic, and geographic data.
  • Best Places (Sperling's) - Analyzes data about people and places and rates them for major publications. Free but requires creating an account for the most complete information.
  • City Data.com - City Data has collected and analyzed data from numerous sources to create as complete and interesting profiles of all U.S. cities. It contains graphs of latest real estate prices and sales trends, recent home sales, home value estimator, hundreds of thousands of maps, satellite photos, stats about residents (race, income, ancestries, education, employment...), geographical data, crime data and more
  • Community Health Statistics - The goal of Community Health Status Indicators (CHSI) is to provide an overview of key health indicators for local communities and to encourage dialogue about actions that can be taken to improve a community’s health.
  • Environmental Systems Research Institute: Community Tapestry - ESRI's market segmentation system, classifies U.S. neighborhoods into based on their socioeconomic and demographic composition. Segmentation explains customer diversity, describes lifestyles and lifestages, and incorporates a wide range of data such as demographic, business, and market potential data.

  • Zip Map - This Google Map mashup will help you find the zip code for anywhere in the United States. Clicking on the map or keying a zip code or address into the search box will zoom the map to the area of that particular zip code.
  • Zip Skinny - The site provides an interesting "first glance" at a ZIP Code area, but it should only be seen as that – a first glance. It is not a substitute for the more thorough research you should do prior to making decisions about relocating to or conducting business in a particular location.
