A Woman of Inspiration: Donna Mullett

The world is full of inspiring people. From politicians to religious leaders, our lives are touched on many levels by individuals who exhibit characteristics that we both admire and try to emulate. Sometimes though, the most inspiring people are not the ones we see on television or in the news, but rather the ones who we interact with on a daily basis.

When I think about the most inspirational woman I know, Donna Mullett is the person who immediately comes to mind. Not only is she a dedicated mother and career woman, but she also has overcome obstacles and adversity with strength and dignity that is admired by all who know her.

My admiration for her begins with the strength and courage she displays as a mother. After leaving a broken marriage at a young age, she single handedly raised her son for five years while working full-time and continuing to be a present and dedicated mother. Born into a family that struggled financially, she ensured that neither of her children ever wanted for anything; working sometimes two jobs to send both of them to private high schools and later college. Her strength continued when her daughter began to suffer from an illness that required her to be placed into a treatment facility several states away. Instead of leaving her to battle the illness alone, she temporarily moved her business to a small apartment in St. Louis to be with her daughter while she recovered.

Courage and strength are not the only thing Donna has that inspires others; her leadership and dedication are also traits that she is admired for. When she learned of unethical practices occurring at the company where she had worked for 28 years, she was the only employee who confronted her superiors instead of ignoring it. When her inquiries where passively dismissed, not only did she pursue the matter but she also left the company and started her own business. Nine years later, her transcription company is thriving and the office where she once worked has been publicly exposed for their wrongdoings.

Through her dedication to her family, courage, strength, and perseverance Donna Mullett has inspired and touched countless people’s lives, including my own. Not only have I had the pleasure of knowing this amazing woman but also I am lucky enough to call her my mother. She has taught me so much and helped me through the most difficult times in my life in a way unlike anyone else.

My mother has inspired me for twenty one years, teaching me that anything is possible if you believe in yourself and that backing down from an injustice is never an option. Anyone who has ever had the privilege of knowing my mother has been changed for the better and this is why I truly consider Donna Mullett to be the most inspirational person that I know.
