Physician and author Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr. will speak about plant-based diets in a free public talk at Bellarmine University on Thursday, September 19, 2013, at 7 p.m. in the George G. Brown Center's Frazier Hall.

Esselstyn is the author of the book "Prevent & Reverse Heart Disease," in which he discusses his patients' reversals of heart disease by following a low-fat, whole foods, plant-based diet. He was featured in the 2011 documentary "Forks over Knives." Esselstyn is director of the cardiovascular prevention and reversal program at The Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute.
During his presentation, Esselstyn will explain plant-based food plans. His wife, Ann Esselstyn, also featured in the documentary, will present 10 steps to incorporate plant foods into personal food plans. Samples prepared from their recipes will be served at a reception following the event.
