'On the Record' lecture series begins with Coach Davenport

September 18, 2013

Bellarmine University's newest lecture series, titled "On the Record," begins Monday, September 23, with an interview of Scott Davenport, Bellarmine's men’s head basketball coach.

Davenport will be interviewed by Bellarmine’s women’s head basketball coach, Chancellor Dugan. Questions during the session, which is modeled after Bravo's "Inside the Actors Studio," will be geared towards engaging discussion about substantial life occurrences and lessons.

Davenport has been a prominent figure in the Bellarmine community and Louisville’s sports community as a whole for several years.

Prior to taking on the head coaching job at Bellarmine, Davenport served nine years as an assistant coach at the University of Louisville under Denny Crum and Rick Pitino. He also served as an assistant at Virginia Commonwealth University with former University of Kentucky coach Tubby Smith.

Heading into his eighth year as Bellarmine’s men’s head coach, he has built a winning resume of his own. He led the Knights to their first Division II NCAA men’s national championship victory in 2011, while accumulating a record of 33-2. This made him the first Bellarmine coach in history to win a national championship in any sport.

“On the Record” is a series aimed to bring different community leaders to campus, to engage in a thoughtful discussion about life lessons. Sponsors for the series include Bellarmine’s Student Activities Center and Student Government Association.
