Bellarmine University will honor Dr. Kevin W. Cosby, president of Simmons College of Kentucky and pastor of St. Stephen Church, at this year’s December commencement ceremony. Commencement takes place on December 18 at 6 p.m. in Knights Hall on Bellarmine's campus.

The December commencement ceremony will recognize 355 students, including 95 who completed their degrees over the summer. Cosby will also receive an honorary doctor of humane letters degree for his devotion to service and his work as a community leader.

Cosby is a proponent of the power of education and service who has led a ministry at St. Stephen Church in West Louisville for more than 30 years. His ministries seek to elevate those affected by poverty, addiction and other social ills through spiritual, intellectual, social and economic empowerment.

Cosby has held administrative and teaching assignments at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, the University of Louisville and Kentucky State University, where he also served on the board of trustees. He is the author of several books and has lectured around the world.

in 2005, he brought his passion for mission and education to Simmons Bible College (now Simmons College of Kentucky) when he was named its 13th president. Simmons College of Kentucky prepares Christians for leadership roles with a curriculum designed to promote healthy ministries, while once again embracing its initial mission of general education.

Cosby holds a doctorate from United Theological Seminary, a master’s degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Kentucky University. Louisville Magazine deemed him one of the “50 Most Powerful/Influential Louisvillians” in 1994 and 2005.
