Performances begin Feb. 14 and conclude Feb. 22
Beginning this weekend, Bellarmine University's
theatre program presents a play by Madeline George titled “Seven Homeless Mammoths Wander New England,” directed by Bellarmine alumna Bethany Morse.
The performance, which is intended for mature audiences, is about Dean Wreen, whose college is in financial trouble and plans to close its small natural history museum, shocking the local community. At home, Dean's ex-lover, Greer, is staying with her, causing problems with her current girlfriend, Andromeda.
"I fell in love with the characters on my first reading," said Morse. "They're very interesting people who are in an uncomfortable situation which makes them particularly fun subjects for the actors. The main storyline is interspersed with scenes from inside the museum in danger, as portrayed by the mannequins on display. That's an acting challenge you don't come across everyday."
Morse was the first graduate of Bellarmine's theater program and has been directing in the community for the past 10 years. This is her fourth time directing a Bellarmine production.
All showings will be in the Wyatt Center's Blackbox Theater, and will take place on February 14, 15, 16, 20, 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m. An additional matinee showing takes place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 16. [

General admission tickets are $15 and $10 for seniors and students with a valid ID.
