61st annual commencement ceremony, which was moved indoors to Knights
Hall because of potential lightning.
The commencement speaker was author Roger Rosenblatt, whose essays for Time magazine and PBS have won two George Polk Awards, the Peabody and the Emmy. He is the author of six off-Broadway plays and 16 books,
including the national bestsellers "Kayak Morning," "Unless It Moves the Human Heart," "Making Toast," "Rules for Aging" and "Children of War," which won the Robert F. Kennedy Book Prize and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. "Lapham
Rising," his first novel, was also a national bestseller.
Rosenblatt is a Distinguished Professor of English and Writing at Stony Brook University, and delivered Bellarmine's 2013 Guarnaschelli Lecture.
When combined with graduates
from August and December, Bellarmine conferred 921 degrees during the 2013-14 academic year.
The commencement ceremonies were
streamed live online and
broadcast on campus in the George G. Brown Center's Frazier Hall and the Wyatt Center's Cralle Theater for overflow crowds.
