ACADEMIC CONVOCATION
When is Convocation?

Convocation is scheduled for Thursday, August 21st and Friday, August 22, 2008. The Community Wide Welcome Picnic and Matriculation book signing will take place on Thursday at 4:30 pm.  Mass will be at 9 AM followed by the Convocation ceremony at 11 AM on Friday the 22nd.

What is Convocation?
Convocation is the ceremony that officially begins your academic career at Bellarmine University.

What Happens During Convocation?
Students attend a community wide picnic with their families where they can meet their future faculty, sign the Matriculation Book, signifying their commitment to Bellarmine and meet the President of the University. On Friday morning Students and their families have the option of attending a Convocation Mass.  Students and their families attend the official Convocation ceremony. Students and their families are addressed by the President, the Student Government Association President, and a Professor, to officially welcome all new students. Students recite the Matriculation Oath. Students have a Class Photo taken.

Who Should Attend?
All new (freshman and transfer) students attend, along with their parents and siblings. Over 2000 people attend the Convocation annually. Disability-related accommodations can be made, with advance notice, for anyone who attends Convocation. Call Ronda Purdy at 452-8480 for disability-related accommodations.

Is Attendance Required?
All new students (freshmen and transfers) are expected to attend Convocation.

How Long is Convocation?
You will be receiving an invitation with the Convocation Schedule. Convocation should end in the early afternoon to allow time for travel home.

What Do I Wear?
You and your family should dress comfortably for the day. "Dressy Casual" is how most people dress for Convocation day. The new students will be given an academic robe (similar to what is worn at graduation) for the actual Convocation ceremony.

Who Should Attend the Mass?
A Mass will be held on Friday morning. The Catholic Liturgy (Mass) is open for people of all faiths, and is geared toward students and student-related issues.
