1950s 44 BELLA RMINE MAGAZINE Mike Hays ’97 and Sarah O’Donnell Hays ’00 welcomed Niall Timothy on Jan. 3, 2013. He joined big sister Nora Rose, 7, and brothers Liam Michael, 5, and Declan Walter, 2. The Hays family lives in St. Louis, where Sarah stays at home with the children and Mike works as a manager at World Wide Technology. Christi (Spurlock) Cole ’99 and Jeff Cole proudly announce the birth of their daughter Abrienna Hannah Ryane on Jan. 28, 2013. She joins big sister Emmery. Bob Lincoln ’54 announces the birth of his first great-grandchild, Ava Marie Maly, on July 8, 2013, in Cincinnati. Ike Stetter ’54 attended the May graduation of his grandson, Michael Ringlein ’13, and captured this threegeneration legacy photo along with his daughter, Sharon Stetter ’81. 1960s Oliver Barber ’65 was inducted into the Kentucky Soccer Hall of Fame on Aug. 10 in Lexington. A senior partner at Barber, Banaszynski & Hiatt, PSC, in Louisville, he has served as a soccer coach and referee for decades and is committee chairman of the Kentucky Soccer Referee Association. He and his wife, Nancy Barber, have five children. The Kentucky Soccer Hall of Fame is a joint project of the youth and adult associations that govern soccer in Kentucky; since 2008, 29 members have been inducted. CLASS NOTES 1970s Jerry Schlick ’70 of Tiflin, Ohio, has retired from active teaching after 43 years in the classroom, most recently at the high school in the Seneca East school system in Attica, Ohio. Keith ’78 and Nancy Wilson ’78 set sail on the Bellarmine Alumni Travel Italian Inspiration Cruise and had a wonderful time touring Rome and Venice and enjoying the cruise ship. 1980s Lois Taurman ’83/’85 was presented a Lenny Lyles Award for sports and civic achievement in Louisville during a ceremony June 5 at the Brown and Williamson Club at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. Taurman was the only athlete in the history of Bellarmine to participate in three intercollegiate sports – basketball, volleyball and softball – in each of her four undergraduate years. Shortly before graduating from the Lansing School with a degree in nursing, she fell from a ladder and broke her neck. Undeterred, she completed her degree, went on to earn a law degree and now practices estate and probate law. She also took up wheelchair racing and fencing and has represented the United States in each sport at the Paralympic Games. Taurman was one of three people honored in the first year of the Lyles Award, which was created to honor the former University of Louisville All-America football player who became a successful businessman and community leader after retiring from the National Football League. Randy Arnold ’84 joined AB Sciex as market development specialist for academic and -omics markets in the Midwest in March 2013. Julie Guenthner ’84 was recently promoted to CEO at ElderServe, a nonprofit agency in Louisville that works to improve the lives of older adults. Harry Freibert ’85 has been named the president of the Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants for 2013-14. Diane Hatchett ’87 recently graduated from the Leadership Institute for School Principals and was named a Kentucky Colonel. 1990s Hays Cole Lincoln & Ava Stetters On April 27, Sarah Frey ’01 and Kevin Frey celebrated their 10th anniversary and renewed their vows at the Graceland Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas. They were accompanied by many of their Bellarmine friends. Front row: Elvis.
