THE ALUMNI CORNER From your Alumni Association Executive Director Mentors make a difference More than 65 percent of Bellarmine University graduates live and work in the Louisville area. Having such a large percentage of alumni near campus is not the case for many private universities – and it gives us a great opportunity to help current Bellarmine students. I’m proud to tell you about our Career Consultant Mentoring Program, which was created by our Alumni Board of Directors under the leadership of then-president Joe Weingardt ’02 MBA. During the 2012-13 academic year, we offered the program to an audience of mostly juniors and seniors, and 60 students applied. They were matched with 60 alumni in their chosen career field – an aspiring law student with a practicing attorney, for instance. The program was such a success that we are expanding it! If you live and work in the Louisville area, we are asking for your help to take this program to the next level by signing up to mentor a student. What is involved? In the fall 2013 semester you will be matched with a student, then asked to attend two to three events in the spring 2014 semester. It is a wonderful opportunity to have a positive effect on the life of a current BU student. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Matt Kamer ’95 for his leadership and service as the 2012-13 Alumni Board president and to welcome Jay Pitts ’04 as the 2013-14 president.
