Photo by Carla Carlton When you think about study-abroad programs, you probably think about tenderfoot undergrads spending a summer or a semester overseas, leaving as babes and coming back as young men and women of the world. But increasingly, study-abroad is becoming a key part of the grad-school experience as well. in our increasingly interconnected world, study-abroad is as critical to a thorough understanding of a graduate-school discipline as it is on the under- graduate level. And grad school study-abroad programs often appeal to students who didn’t get a chance to study abroad as undergrads – as well as those who had a great experience and want to recapture the magic. one example is Bellarmine’s MBA study-abroad programs in Spain and France. The MBA program has been taking students abroad since 1997, according to Dr. Dan Bauer, dean of the W. Fielding rubel School of Business and a professor in the MBA program. “MBA students have studied in France, Germany, Nicara- gua, russia and Spain,” he said, adding that a recurring program will begin in india in December. fall 2012 23
