Establishing Credentials in a Placement File – Teacher Education
Please read carefully the
following information. It is provided
so you may better utilize the services provided to Education graduates by the
Career Center Office.
It is vital for all
completing a certification program in Education to establish credentials in a
placement file, whether you plan to teach immediately or in the future, as most
school systems require them.
1. The first item that must be submitted before a file
will be opened is the Resume (A).
2. Teacher candidates need at least six (6)
recommendations: One from each
supervising teacher, one from each college supervisor, other educators and
employers. (Many students have two supervising teachers). Recommendations (B) that are received prior
to submission of the resume will be placed in a "hold" file.
3.Evaluation sheets (C) provided by the Career
Center include a section which gives
you the option of selecting whether the evaluations submitted to this office
are to be considered confidential or non-confidential. If you have letters of recommendation
submitted, this form must also be returned with the letter so that personnel
will know the confidentiality status of the letter. Your choice should be indicated on the form before you give it to
the person you are asking to recommend you. That person is then informed of whether or not you have access to the
recommendation. Evaluations in your
file must be either all confidential or all non-confidential. Confidential references must be returned
to the Career Center by the evaluator. You must exercise this option by checking and signing the appropriate
box on the evaluation form. Evaluations
that are not checked and signed by you will not be accepted by this office.
4. Upon your
request, the Registrar's Office will send the Career Center a "student copy" of
your transcript (D). An "official" copy
is not required for this file.
5. Credentials having no action (additions/revisions) for
a 3-to-5 year period become outdated and of limited value. When there is no action to credentials for 5
years, the file is destroyed. Files can
be reestablished at a later date.
6. Should you earn a higher degree from another
institution, credentials from Bellarmine should be deleted. You will need to establish your file at the
University awarding the Master's or Ph.D. degree. Copies of part or all of your file at Bellarmine can be forwarded
to that institution for retention, if required.
7. The Career Center has developed a binder with the
addresses of all the Boards of Education in Kentucky and teaching positions
listed with the Career Center will be posted on the Career Center web site
under degree listings.
8. Information of your employment status should be sent
to the Career Center Office. When you
accept employment or change information kept in your credential file such as an
address, notify this office immediately.
