This program offers a two-year formal training and development opportunity to qualified candidates which will prepare the candidate for a Human Resources Specialist position in a VA Medical Center. The training program will expose the candidate to the full range of programs associated with Human Resources. The position provides opportunities to learn all aspects of development, coordination and management of the Human Resources programs that will prepare the intern for future positions of greater responsibility. Training is provided under the supervision of a preceptor. During the program, interns may be promoted to a higher grade level when administrative and qualification requirements are met. Upon successful completion of the program, the candidate may be converted to a career-conditional or career appointment, as appropriate. Candidates who do not perform successfully or progress sufficiently during the program may be terminated at any time.

Qualifications:  Qualification Requirements: To be eligible for the GS-9 grade level, candidates must have a master's or equivalent degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level education leading to such a degree OR 1 year of specialized experience, which must have been equivalent to the GS-7 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and ability to perform successfully the duties of the position, and this is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Qualifying specialized experience is defined as work in programs associated with Human Resources (recruitment & placement, employee relations, labor relations, classification, etc). Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be found qualifying. Applicants seeking to qualify on the basis of education or a combination of experience and education must submit copies of official transcripts (see NOTE). NOTE: Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications (particularly positions with a positive education requirement.)
