Our Staff
The Counseling Center is staffed by
three full-time, licensed mental health professionals and five graduate
psychology practicum students.
Gary Petiprin, Ph.D., Director
Gary is a licensed psychologist with more than 15
years of professional experience working in college and university
counseling centers. He received his doctorate in Counseling Psychology
in 1993 from Indiana State University and his bachelors degree in
Psychology and masters degree in Community Counseling at Oklahoma State
University. He has worked at the University of Louisville Counseling
Center as a staff psychologist and served as the Counseling Center
Director at East Tennessee State University (1998-2004) and Hanover
College (2004-2007). His areas of interest include gender issues;
multicultural and LGBT issues; substance abuse; sexual assault and
suicide prevention.
Amy Wendell, Psy.D., Assistant Director
Amy is a licensed psychologist who
received her doctorate in clinical psychology from Spalding University
in 2005. She completed her internship and post-doc year at Montana
State University’s Counseling and Psychological Services in Bozeman,
MT. Amy joined the BU Counseling Center staff in 2007. She sees
clients for individual, couples and group therapy, and also supervises
pre-doctoral practicum therapists. Amy uses a humanistic,
interpersonal and psychodynamic approach in therapy, and works with a
variety of presenting issues, including depression, anxiety,
adjustment, relationship difficulties, sexual identity, and trauma.
Ronda Purdy, M.A., CPAT, Counselor/Disability Services Coordinator
Ronda is a
registered, certified Art Therapist who both serves as a counselor and
coordinator of disability services. She received her undergraduate
degree, BA, at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. Ronda then went to
the University of Louisville where she received a Masters of Arts in
Expressive Therapies. Ronda has 13 years of experience in the mental
health field which included intensive outpatient and in-home individual
and family therapy with children and adults. Ronda’s counseling
experience started at Seven Counties Services, where she worked for
approximately seven years. Ronda also spent five years at St. Joseph
Children’s Home, where she was the Family Preservation Program Manager
and provided on-going therapy for children and families. Ronda came to
Bellarmine in 2007. She brings expressive therapy interventions into
sessions when the client is comfortable with that approach, but also
uses humanistic, interpersonal and eclectic approaches to therapy.
