Faculty and Staff Information

The Counseling Center serves as a resource to faculty and staff by providing consultation, referral information, and education on mental health topics.

Personal Counseling

The Counseling Center does not provide personal counseling to university employees, only students. Employees seeking such services are encouraged to contact the Employee Assistance Program through Wayne Corporation (502.451.8262 or 800.441.1327).

Consultation

Faculty and staff are often the first people in whom a student confides. If you should have questions about how to be supportive to a student, how to effectively address an emotional/psychological issue with a student, or how to make a referral, the Counseling Center staff can provide confidential consultation.

Referral

Faculty and staff who are seeking mental health services for themselves, family or friends may contact our office to receive referral information on providers in the community. For more information about when and how to refer a student for counseling, we have prepared the following document: (How to Refer a Distressed Student)

Outreach Education

If there is a mental health topic that you would like to address with students in your class, residence hall or organization, you can contact our office at 502.272.8480. Common topics include:

  • Stress Management
  • Healthy Coping Skills
  • Cultural Diversity
  • Safe Zone
  • Self-Esteem
  • Positive Body Image
  • Sexual Assault Prevention/Health Relationships
  • Choices: Alcohol Education

We can accommodate most program requests with enough notice.

QPR Training

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among college students. Faculty and staff are often in a position of influence with students and may have students confide in them thoughts of suicide. When this happens, it is important to feel prepared to respond in the most effective way possible. QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) is a 90 minute program designed to give faculty and staff the basic tools to respond in such situations. To arrange a QPR Training for your department or group, contact the Counseling Center 502.272.8480. To learn more about QPR, click here.
