It is the policy of the University to provide an accessible place for students to live and study, with appropriate safety and security measures in place. During fire drills and emergencies, alarms and flashing lights throughout the residential facilities alert students of potential and/or imminent danger. In addition, public address systems are used when possible. Smoke detectors are in all residential rooms and public areas, and sprinkler systems are located in Petrik, Kennedy, Newman, and Anniversary Halls. The Security and Residence Life staff will assist persons with disabilities who require assistance evacuating a building during an emergency. The staff have been trained to follow the Evacuation of Persons with Disabilities procedures, as outlined in the Bellarmine Student Handbook. It is the responsibility of the student to inform the Residence Life Office if evacuation assistance will be needed.
