For example, in Bellarmine College, we launched the new Institute for Media, Culture and Ethics in May 2007 to provide cutting-edge professional development for area business and corporate new media education. We are increasing our investment in the communications department and it will become a new School of Communication: Media, Culture and Ethics, offering undergraduate and graduate degrees.
The Rubel School of Business is launching a new Sports Studies minor and is working on innovations in its successful MBA program to make sure it remains more convenient, affordable and excellent than others.
In the Lansing School of Nursing and Health Sciences we are launching a new Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP), and an Institute of Health and Wellness that will include a concentration in exercise science and athletic training. We are also increasing our capacity in Physical Therapy.
In the Frazier Thornton School of Education we are working with national figures to become the model for the future of teacher education in America. We have been selected by the Kentucky Department of Education as the state’s model training program for school principals. And we are developing a doctorate in special education.
In student life, we have created Crossroads, the overnight off-campus Freshman orientation retreats that get our students together and ready before the start of school. We have completed phase one of the extraordinary new Siena-style residence hall complex. And the beautiful new Owsley B. Frazier Stadium and Clayton Field in Knights Park comprise an electrifying sports venue for our student athletes and their fans. We resurfaced our tennis courts, increased participation in student groups and attendance at athletic events, and expanded food services, and we are speeding up development of more new residence halls.
