Recording Lectures with PowerPoint and Sharing on Moodle

PowerPoint is often used for our lectures in the classroom.  Many know that PowerPoints can be narrated with audio, but did you know that you can also create videos with PowerPoint as well.  The latest version of PowerPoint, available via your Office 365 account or the Software Center, will create video as well as audio with your PowerPoint lecture.  This is an easy way to create an overview of the syllabus or lectures your students can review to solidify what has been discussed in class.  Studies have shown that student grades are higher when videos of lectures are included for review in courses.

A word of caution is needed here as best practice dictates that we have short lectures in the classroom so as to not lose our student's attention.  When recording videos of your lectures chunk them into 10-15 minutes at most.  Your students will gain more from them.

Once you have created the videos, you can share them as links or embed the code in your Moodle course.  We recommend you upload them to Stream (Bellarmine's You Tube storage space brought to you by Microsoft). Sounds complicated, but it is really not.  Here is a video on the process and a handout.

If you run into any issues please contact Adam or I or the TSC (they can help with installation whereas we might not be able to it).
