Today's posting looks at lecturing.  Often lecturing is thought to be a thing of the past and no longer a useful tool for learning.  Well, think again with a few innovative techniques lecturing can be a very viable tool for learning.  A new book, Dynamic Lecturing: Research-Based Strategies to Enhance Lecture Effectiveness by Dr. Christine Harrington provides many helpful suggestions and strategies on using lecturing in the classroom. 

Her PowerPoint presentation on this topic is located here and is well worth a read.  In her presentation, she emphasizes that direct instruction is best for novice learners and that short lectures combined with case-based learning can still be an effective tool in the classroom.  In addition, her book is affordable and will make a valuable addition to your bookshelf.
