At Bellarmine, liberal arts pairs classroom curiosity with real-world needs

Admissions

What can a liberal arts education do for you?

At Bellarmine, we’ll encourage you to pursue intellectual and academic interests while adopting the skills you’ll need to land a job in your field. We’ll also prepare you to engage in lifelong learning as your work needs and personal interests change over time.

Through exposure to a broad range of subjects, from history to ethics and philosophy, students learn to think critically, solve problems and communicate—all abilities required for success in the workplace. As a result, our students are known for being well-rounded—so much so, local employers seek out Bellarmine grads, specifically.

Angela London, a 2015 graduate in political science, now works as a lawyer in Washington, D.C.  She said hands-on, experiential learning opportunities, like working for a local trial judge, paired perfectly with Bellarmine’s liberal arts curriculum, preparing her for a successful legal career.

“Class assignments teach you to read something, analyze it, extrapolate from that information, convey an argument and an opinion, which was invaluable for my career,” she said. “I use those skills daily.”

"Do I want to leave Bellarmine? Absolutely not. But do I feel like I can do this? Yes.”

Katie McWhorter, a junior Respiratory Therapy major from Leitchfield, Ky., said her liberal arts classes have been critical. Ethics class helped her grapple with challenging issues she’ll face in her future career when working with patients. Her program also has given her unparalleled exposure to professional environments, she said.

“I started getting in the hospital almost right away, which really set Bellarmine apart,” she said. “At other schools you’d be waiting several years before you were in the hospital. I feel like I have what I need, what I need to be equipped to go out into the real world. Do I want to leave Bellarmine? Absolutely not. But do I feel like I can do this? Yes.”
