Tell us about yourself!
I am Izzie Salameh, a Louisville native, who graduated from Bellarmine in 2021 with
a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. I played volleyball at Bellarmine during my four years of undergrad and developed a great appreciation for the athletic
training staff. I am currently in my second and final year earning my Master’s for Athletic Training at Bellarmine and will graduate in the spring of 2023.
What made you choose Bellarmine?
I knew Bellarmine was a great school academically, and I also was aware of their many
graduate programs available for health sciences. I toured several times and really
felt it was the place to continue my academic and athletic career.
What drew you to the field of exercise science and athletic training?
I always knew I enjoyed health sciences and being a student athlete myself I loved
learning about the sports aspect of how the body functions. I was pre-physical therapy
during my time in undergrad, however after talking with my athletic trainers and their
students, I became more aware of the athletic training program and knew it was what
I wanted to pursue.
What do you plan to do upon graduation?
After graduating in the spring, I hope to work in the high school setting with student
athletes.
Have you had in experiences outside your typical classroom instruction that have helped
you learn more, make connections or gain real world skills?
During my undergrad experience, I was able to do a nutrition internship with the University
of Louisville football team. This helped me not only introduce me to working with
athletes, but also pushed me out of my comfort zone, as I had to develop and deliver
informative talks regarding nutrition to the team.
What have you appreciated most about your program at Bellarmine?
I would definitely have to say I appreciated the professors the most. The faculty
truly do go above and beyond to work with you and help you succeed.
Has Bellarmine, overall, been a good experience for you? If so, why?
I have enjoyed my time at Bellarmine and am grateful for where my experiences took
me. I would not have been pursuing a masters if it were not for the professors and
athletic staff who had guided me to follow my passions.
Is there anything else you’d like us to know about your experience at Bellarmine?
I want people to know the Master’s for Athletic Training program is a great option
at Bellarmine. I was not aware of the program until my senior year and I know it is
very appropriate for what a lot of exercise science students actually want to do with
their careers.
