The Bellarmine shield contains six individual symbols, each with its own significance.
THE KNIGHT HEAD
A longtime symbol of Bellarmine and the newly named mascot, Valor, it is now officially featured as a crest on our coat of arms.
THE LAUREL TREE
Originally found in the Ursuline College shield, this icon represents Bellarmine's roots in the Catholic tradition and commitment to branching across boundaries and into the future.
An enduring emblem of the light of knowledge and enlightenment.
The symbol of hospitality and friendship.
FIVE STRIPES OF COLOR
The five stripes in the bottom left field represent valor, knowledge, truth, wisdom and faith.
FLEUR DE LIS
Itself a symbol from the coat of arms of Louisville's namesake, King Louis XIV, the fleur de lis represents the vibrant city that Bellarmine is proud to call home.
