Medical Microbiology
Not many people realize it, but Microbiologists are saving our world from complete extinction by disease! There are many professions associated with microbiology that are finding vaccines to deadly diseases around the world. When researching on the Internet, I found hundreds of web-sites containing information on various careers and opportunities for people who have or are currently studying microbiology. Many of these professions do not seem to relate, but they are, indeed. All of them associate with the study of organisms smaller than the eye can see without a microscope--- Microbiology!
When I was researching information on careers in microbiology, I found a very interesting web-site from the New York University School of Microbiology. This web-site contained many interesting fields of study in Microbiology including Immunology, Structural Biology, and Molecular Pathogenesis. They also have specific majors with definite emphasis on diseases. Their two most popular are the study of AIDS and Cancer. They also have a major emphasizing Environmental Microbiology. If an individual were to attend NYU School of Microbiology, they could pick and choose from many career opportunities.
When researching, I found that most serious microbiologists acquire their doctorate before going on to studying specifically on one emphasis. This leaves wide opportunities for anyone in college planning to pursue any kind of a career in medicine. Many college students planning to go into the medical profession first major in Biology and/or Chemistry. This shows the importance of these kinds of careers in the world. Biology is the basis for everything that is living and the medical world is always in need of people to research different diseases and find cures. Many of the occupations that I found having a background of Microbiology deal with studying diseases and finding cures for them. There were several web-pages about Immunology and Pathology, the study of viruses and pathogens. These seem to be the most popular careers because they make such a big impact on our world. These are the doctors that are saving the lives of people everywhere around the world with vaccines and cures for diseases.
All of these professions are extremely important to our world today. Without these people, who knows where we would be? There are many different diseases that have been cured and a large amount of vaccines produced that have extinguished previously life-threatening diseases from the population. Due to the many options that a person studying microbiology has, they can change the world of disease by any career they choose. The field of Microbiology offers a side variety of career options available to anyone who willing to make a difference in the world of medicine! Christa Miracle
